Token, Smithfield

I used to be a bit of a computer game head back in the day and even helped design games for a living at one stage, but then I got a bit older and busier and life took over. I am still partial to an odd dabble however, and when I heard Token in Smithfield was gonna have games, food and booze all under one roof I was excited. It’s deadly to be able to grab a pint of Guinness and sit down and play Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and loads more of the old classics. Throw some great grub into the mix to soak up those drinks and you’re left with a fun all round entertaining experience.

I’ve been in a couple of times now but only on my last visit did I get to sample the food. This time I needed a get fed!

The food option’s consist of PALS (burgers), DOGGS ( hot dogs), JUANS (tacos), and LOVE ME TENDERS which are, you guessed it (tenders). We were off on a cinema date to check out Blade runner after the food ‘n games so we needed some sustenance. We plumped for the Pug life Dogg, cheddar kraut, crisp shallot and house mustard €7 95, Buffalo Tenders, with homemade Hot sauce and blue cheese dip € 7 95, a primo side of Short Rub Chilli Fries €5 95 and Mixed Seasonal Greens € 3 95. We just mucked in and shared everything which I reckon is a good way to go with two people as you get a nice little sampler of a few dishes.

I gotta say, by no means is the food a tag on here. It’s really delicious stuff. Every bit of our grub was full of flavour and even the mixed greens (added on to ease the guilt obviously) was a winner. Very tastily dressed! Tenders packed a nice kick, as did the very tasty hot dog and chilli fries, which when done well are always a good decision.

Defo recommend you swing by Token for a great feed. This place is ideal before a night of pints in nearby Dice bar but equally it’s a great date venue. I reckon it’s also a good spot for a birthday bash with a difference. Superb food, beers and load’s of great games. A winner of a formula in my book, although next time I’m in I’d like to see Time Crisis and Sega Rally… if your reading this Token….. thanks in advance.
